Day 9: Not so Supersonic in Seattle

This morning, the boys woke-up and made their way to the church for breakfast and Sunday morning church service, in which they were singing five songs.  They people just loved the boys!  Afterwards, we made our way into downtown Seattle to get the boys to the Space Needle for sure, more if possible.
Sundays in Seattle are a mess.  Absolute traffic gridlock right now, while they are going through some construction on the main roads downtown. I am beginning to think every day in Seattle might be a mess.  This city, built around the Puget Sound, was not designed for busses.  Nor was the parking scheme for the city, as we spent a good forty-five minutes trying to just find a spot we could stop to let the boys off!  Eventually we found one, and grabbed a quick bite to eat of our bag lunches and made our way up the Space Needle.
The boys had a blast going around up there, taking each other’s pictures and using the free binoculars to peep around the city with.  The Mariners were playing at nearby Safeco Field, and you could actually see inside the stadium from our vantage point.  There were about three cruise ships in the harbor as well, which amused the boys.  After a not-so-brief stop at the not-official gift store (because they are so much cheaper), we had a little time to kill yet.  We had considered making our way to the Pikes Place Market on the Monorail, but with other events taking place in the city, as well as the fact that we would be returning in the morning anyway, we decided to take a stroll through the Seattle Center instead.  The boys had fun running around the fountains they had there.  After they had just enough fun without getting hurt yet, I put an end to the madness and we made our way back towards the bus.
For dinner, we stopped by a Godfather’s Pizza near the church and ordered the salad bar for each boy and eight jumbo pizzas for everyone.  “Only eight pizzas for 33 people”, you may ask.  Yes, only 8 – and they had to box one of them up to bring back with us!  They were pretty “jumbo”.
We made it back to the church by 8:00 and the host families whisked the boys away to their homes for some fun, socializing and hopefully…laundry.

  1. Sounds like they were in Seattle on a good day. Only the typical construction and no major accidents on the Freeway. Being there on Sunday means the weekday commuter gridlock wasn't occurring. Glad there was actual place to park the bus. Often times methinks that to be impossible.
Have lived near Seattle for 40+ years, and do make it a point to avoid that place whenever possible.
